Motorola has announced its latest smartphone, the Moto Z3 Play, with a 6.01-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ display (2160 x 1080p resolution), dual main cameras and a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor.
The Moto Z3 Play will be available in the U.S. this summer through Sprint and U.S. Cellular and will also be available unlocked through retailers including Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Fry’s and B&H Photo as well as Prime Exclusive Phone on Amazon.com.
The handset will be bundled with a special expanded battery Moto Mod pack for $499 through the retailers. The price of the phone alone without the Moto Mod battery through Sprint or U.S. Cellular has not yet been announced.
The Moto Z3 Play also features an 850MHz Adreno 509 graphics chip, 4GB of memory, 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage, a microSD slot for expandable storage cards up to 2TB, a fingerprint reader and facial unlocking capabilities for security and a 3,000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery.
The phone has a 2.5D glass front and back, along with a polished aircraft-quality aluminum frame and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display cover for durability. It is also splash-resistant to protect against minor accidental spills.
The handset’s main dual cameras include an f/1.7 12-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing camera, both with autofocusing, dual LED flash and Zero Shutter Lag capabilities. The rear cameras provide video recording up to 4K Ultra HD at 30 fps). The phone’s front camera is an 8-megapixel model with an f2.0 wide-angle lens and video capture capabilities up to 1080p (30 fps).
The Moto Z3 Play also includes a USB-C charging port as well as an included 3.5mm headphone jack converter that plugs into the USB-C port for use with earbuds. The LTE handset features 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity as well to extend its use beyond cellular networks.
The phone, which is available in a Deep Indigo color and is compatible with all Motorola Moto Mods accessories, is 6.16 inches long, 3.01 inches wide, 0.27 inches thick and weighs 5.5 ounces.
In April, Moto announced its latest Moto G6 and E5 budget smartphones, priced from $180 to $362 each.
